Description for Route of Synthesis:
Add a measured amount of crotonic acid to a dry reaction bottle, then slowly add a slightly excess HBr solution (48%) dropwise. After the dropwise addition is complete, stir the reaction at room temperature. The product is obtained through extraction, vacuum distillation, recrystallization, and drying.
